Design work for documentary film events

**this post is part of a series as we catch up on sharing work from the last couple of years. The website update should take place over the winter.

Over the last five years, I’ve enjoyed working with Full Frame to design their festival broadsheet posters and program guides. Below are glimpses at materials from this year’s festival, as well as a poster and announcement I created last fall for the biennial visiting filmmaker series curated by the Arts of the Moving Image department at Duke, and a brochure and pitch deck sequence that was created for The Southern Documentary Fund Organization, an amazing non-profit which provides crucial support to help bring to light a wide range of filmmakers’ projects.

The broadsheet poster is inserted into The Independent Weekly the week before the festival as well as sent to various cities for posting up in windows and on walls. What is shown below is the first reveal after opening the folded poster “cover,” then the second reveal to the inside of the poster (fully opened).

The Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel Visiting Filmmaker Series features artists whose work addresses contemporary topics of social, political, economic, and cultural urgency. This past year’s series featured the work of Laura Poitras.

The following link is a 17 “page” sequence created for the Southern Documentary Fund Organization to make group presentations and to provide a glimpse at the diversity and quantity of work they have supported in their first decade.

Below is the print brochure. While the Full Frame materials are printed in the thousands on an offset press (and we manage an incredibly tight turnaround time, especially with the 128 page program guide), the SDF brochure was printed on a digital press since the edition only numbered in the hundreds. In each case, much focus is placed into production coordination to ensure the “right” vendor gets the job and that they deliver materials that look great and at competitive prices.
